Michael Levenson, Postural Alignment Specialist
Michael has more than 20 years of experience in Personal Training, Yoga, Pilates, and Massage Therapy, as well as dozens of related certifications. He is a certified Medical Exercise Specialist having been trained by orthopedic surgeons. Michael is certified in and a very big fan of Egoscue Postural Alignment. This enables him to evaluate an individual’s entire body, from top to bottom, to assess anatomical alignment as a means of identifying and correcting areas of concern that may be responsible for pain and injury in a seemingly unrelated area of the body.
The first thing you will notice about Michael is not his extensive knowledge and competence – which you will see soon enough, but rather his intensity and the seriousness with which he approaches his chosen profession. He is at the top of his game when pulling together everything he knows to benefit his clients.
For those of you who do not know yet why I value and appreciate Pain Free Movement, you are about to find out.
I thought I was in the best shape of my life. I was a Triathlete and loved pushing heavy weights at the gym. By the time I was 26, I quickly came to realize, I was no longer invincible. I developed pain in the left side of my lower back. Over a years time, the pain traveled down my back side, the back of my leg, calf, and had pins and needles in my left foot any time that I stood. The pain was so unbearable, I lost my Achille’s reflex (I was unable to pick up my foot to take a step forward to walk).
I was one of the youngest people to require spinal surgery from a herniated disc (L5-S1) in the lower lumbar area. The surgery was a success. Now, the challenging part. The first 3 months, I needed to learn how to walk again. Once I was able to walk comfortably, I graduated to physical therapy. I said to my therapist very clearly, “I am a Personal Trainer. I can do any machine you want me to do. What do I need you for? My whole therapy consisted of (what is now the “in” thing to do for fitness) balance, postural, core, and agility work. I learned that there is a direct relationship with the length of hamstring (back of the thigh) muscle group with the length of your lower back musculature. In addition, there is a direct relationship with the strength of your inner thigh muscles with the strength of your lower back muscles as well. I felt so amazing from my therapy, I decided to immediately get certified in all those techniques.
In addition, Yoga and Pilates were on my list as well. Even with all my new found knowledge and skills, I knew there were some people I still could not help eliminate their pain. That is when I was introduced to Egoscue. Egoscue is a muscle re-education technique. It quiets down your overworked muscles and wakes up your sleeping (weaker) muscles. This is accomplished by placing you in very comfortable and safe positions to let the body heal itself. You will not break a sweat or lift anything more than your own body weight, but you will help heal yourself. No one should know their own bodies better than themselves. My job is to simply teach you how to help you tune in to what your body is telling you and help you become PAIN FREE.
19 years later, I can now say I appreciate my health and well being each and everyday. It would be my pleasure and honor to assist you in getting rid of your pain once and for all regardless of previous surgery, various treatments that you have tried and failed to find relief. I look forward to talking to you soon. I am always available to help you.
